Contrast Therapy is simply exposing your body to hotter and colder temperatures than normal. So why do it? Because the body reacts in positive, healthy ways improving your overall health and wellness. It may be intimidating to do a cold plunge, but you'll be surprised how strong you actually are and how amazing you'll feel afterwards! All you have to do is sit. Sit in the sauna for at least 20 minutes, and then sit in the plunge tub for only 2 minutes. You're done in less than 30 minutes! Sounds pretty easy, right? Well it is, and we have an entire section on the Health Benefits of Contrast Therapy that we encourage you to visit to learn more about it and why you should make it part of your weekly routine.
Below are just a few things that happens when you do Contrast Therapy:
- Sitting in a hot sauna tricks the body into thinking you have a fever, so the body reacts by producing brand new white blood cells improving your immunity response. And that's just one of many benefits! With the addition of Infrared Light Waves you don't need sauna temperatures over 150 degrees F making it easier on your skin and hair.
- You may not like cold water, but your body and brain love it! After a 2-minute plunge your brain produces dopamine and serotonin, happy neurotransmitters that improve your mood for up to 4 hours after your plunge! That's a long time. Cold plunges do not need to be ice baths. Anything below 60 degree F is considered a cold plunge, so we set our tubs at 55 degrees F to make it easier for you to achieve at least 2 minutes in cold water immersion. The first 30 seconds are the worst, but after that you will quickly realize that it's not getting colder and your body is actually getting use to the water temperature.
